Haiti – Politics: Dialogue on the highest stage between Haiti and the EU

Final Thursday, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, accompanied by a number of members of the federal government, met with Ambassador Javier Niño Pérez, Head of the Delegation of the European Union (EU), accompanied by the Ambassadors of Spain and Germany and France and Italian Chargés d’Affaires.
The target of the assembly was to formally provoke a means of political dialogue between the EU and Haiti in accordance with the provisions of Article eight of the Cotonou Settlement, which establishes the affiliation between Haiti and the European Union. The 2 sides welcomed the launch of this course of and have pledged to deepen the partnership between the EU and Haiti to work collectively to strengthen democracy, combat poverty and guarantee progress in Haiti.
Javier Niño Pérez declared “The very sturdy cooperation that unites Haiti and the European Union has established and constant channels of dialogue. In 1989, Haiti joined the group of ACP nations (Africa, Caribbean and Pacific), signatories of the Lomé Conventions that assist cooperation between the European Union and Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific (referred to as ACP nations).
