The Division of Birds, housed inside Chicago’s Discipline Museum, boasts one of many largest scientific avian collections within the nation, representing roughly 90% of the world’s genera and species and containing greater than 480,000 specimens, 21,000 units of eggs and about 200 nests. A bunch exhibition opening this month at Paradigm Gallery + Studio in Philadelphia references this unparalleled archive in a celebration of feathered life.
Organized by Colossal founder and editor-in-chief Christopher Jobson, Poultry Division is comprised of dozens of works in a variety of types and mediums. The present contains each actual and imagined avian creatures and a variety of aesthetics, from a trio of paper sculptures by Roberto Benavidez and the emotionally charged illustrations of Felicia Chiao to Lola Dupré’s collaged roosters and a three-dimensional embroidered nest by Megan Zaniewski .
Poultry Division takes place between August 26 and September 18.
