Its downtown location offered an unimaginable alternative to revitalize the house for public gatherings, civic occasions, and artwork installations, connecting the college campus and downtown and creating an architectural dialogue between inside and exterior.
An arbor of Snøhetta’s “Petals” rises from the Blanton’s Moody Patio, which varieties a gateway connecting Congress Avenue to the campus’ pedestrian backbone. The sculptures create a sublime arc, offering shade and dappled the pavement and surrounding buildings with patches of sunshine that filter by perforated patterns. On not-so-sunny days, the rain that falls on the petals is channeled into an underground assortment system. The agency sought a design that “unifies the museum campus with town’s outstanding boulevard by a choreography of planting, geometry and artwork.”
