ASHTABULA – Gilbert H. Knapp, 92, earlier than Niles, handed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, on the Carington Park Veterans Facility in Ashtabula.
He was born on September 22, 1928 in Sharon, Pennsylvania, the son of Gilbert A. and Clara Murrell Knapp.
Gilbert was a member of St. Stephen Church in Niles and St. Lawrence Church in Bushnell, Florida. He was a WWII Navy Veteran, Airman 1st Class, and obtained the WWII Victory Medal. He retired from Erie Railroad and Conrail, the place he labored as a clerk for 40 years.
He appreciated tenting, , dancing within the fashionable and western plaza, and was a fan of the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns.
Gilbert is survived by 5 youngsters, Richard (Cathy) Knapp from Howland, Patrick (Susan) Knapp from Tallmadge, David (Kim) Knapp from Vienna, Robert (Thomas) Knapp from Niles, and Johnny (Tina) Knapp from Niles; two daughters, Linda Knapp from Niles and Brenda (Vince) Corcoran from Columbus; a sister, Lori (Dean) Henning of Sharon, Pennsylvania, six stepchildren, Ray Lute, David Lute, Susan Hines, Mary Jane Mallia, Joanne Herrich, and Paula Keener; 12 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in loss of life by two sons, Gilbert N. Knapp and Nicholas D. Knapp; two brothers, Jack Knapp and Robert Knapp; two sisters, Barbara Ann and Joan Marie; his aunt, Rose Knapp, who raised him; and his two wives, Mary C. Knapp and Ellen Sharkey.
A Christian burial mass will likely be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at St. Stephen’s Church in Niles. Household and buddies can name from 5 to 7 p.m. M. On Friday, April 16, 2021 and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. M. Saturday at Holloway-Williams Funeral Dwelling, 611 Robbins Ave., Niles, Ohio, 330-652-2422
As a result of present pandemic, face coverings are obligatory and social distancing tips will likely be enforced on the funeral residence and church.
The burial will likely be within the San Esteban cemetery.
