Kanpur: The Himalayan Griffon Vulture, which belongs to a uncommon avian species, has been discovered and rescued close to the Benajhabar Idgah Cemetery in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
He has been despatched for a 15-day quarantine on the Allen Forest Zoo Veterinary Hospital.
District forestry officer Shraddha Yadav mentioned the vulture has been in quarantine on the zoo hospital for 15 days.
“The sighting of a pair of Himalayan vultures has come to the fore. There’s another vulture within the Benajhabar space, the search continues,” he mentioned.
The zoo’s veterinarian, Dr. Nasir Zaidi, mentioned the captured Himalayan vulture was stored on the hospital premises, separated from different birds.
“It weighs about eight kg. The staff of medical doctors is monitoring the uncommon vulture. There are already 4 Himalayan griffon vultures within the zoo,” he mentioned.
The near-threatened chook was unable to fly when it was noticed by some vacationers on the Benajhabar Idgah cemetery, who instantly alerted the forestry division.
The griffon vulture is discovered all through the Himalayas and the adjoining Tibetan Plateau.
