MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — Group members obtained free hair, pores and skin and nail well being screenings at Gee's Clippers on Saturday, February 17.
The clinic was organized by Froedtert and the Medical School of Wisconsin.
Officers say these screenings are essential as a result of individuals of colour are at increased danger of dying from pores and skin most cancers.
“Ladies of colour specifically could have hassle discovering a supplier who’s aware of their hair texture, their hair styling follow or their pores and skin tone,” stated Dr. Shola Vaughn, assistant professor of dermatology.
That is the third yr that this clinic has been organized. Dr. Vaughn stated she hopes this continues.
“The rationale I'm actually excited is as a result of for communities of colour, these are areas… particularly hair and nails that aren't sometimes handled as a part of their main care,” she stated.
There are boundaries to accessing care, information, and monetary challenges.
The pop-up clinic was a possibility for neighborhood members to get their questions answered.
“We are going to notably tackle situations that have an effect on communities of colour, akin to hair loss or alopecia, issues like nail melanoma, and different issues that may have been missed,” Dr. Vaughn stated.
