The Oak Garden Public Library, 9427 S. Raymond Ave., will host the grand opening of its exhibit, “Jazz Music Legends of Oak Garden,” on Saturday, April 27, from 6 to eight p.m.
The exhibit celebrates one of many largest highschool jazz competitions within the nation, the Oak Garden Jazz Pageant, which was held from 1960 to 1986 at Oak Garden Neighborhood Excessive College. The competition featured highschool jazz bands from throughout Illinois, in addition to many extremely esteemed Chicago native skilled jazz performers.
The grand opening will embody mild refreshments and the musical stylings of present Oak Garden Neighborhood Excessive College music college students.
The exhibit may even pay tribute to rock 'n' roll, with live performance images by native photographer AJ Roccaforte, who has labored with REO Speedwagon and Styx, bands with deep roots in Oak Garden.
The exhibit might be open year-round with musical performances by a wide range of jazz teams and guided excursions of the exhibit. The primary tour will happen on Wednesday, June 19 from 2 to three pm No registration is required.
