Born in Zimbabwe, photographer Tamary Kudita traces her ancestry again to the historic Orange Free State, a Dutch colonial area and residential to the South African Boers that was integrated into the British Empire within the early 19th century. Kudita is fascinated by how our “unchosen histories” have formed our identities and society right now.
Since 2019, Kudita has educated her lens on black figures, exploiting the historic and sometimes violent erasure of African views attributable to European colonization.
