Mel Stride is the fourth Conservative MP to enter the race for social gathering management.
The previous Work and Pensions Secretary is now formally working to succeed Rishi Sunak, together with former House Secretary James Cleverly, former Safety Secretary Tom Tugendhat and the final Immigration Secretary Robert Jenrick.
He introduced his candidacy on BBC Breakfast, saying: “I’m totally nominated. I used to be nominated yesterday morning and my candidacy has been forwarded.”
Mr Stride, the MP for Central Devon, retained his seat on the common election by simply 61 votes.
Shadow Secretary of State for Communities and Native Authorities Kemi Badenoch, the bookies' favorite to succeed Mr Sunak, and former House Secretary Suella Braverman and Dame Priti Patel are anticipated to face for election earlier than nominations shut at 2.30pm on Monday.
