aileen de la ree valencia collaborates with nush wadia
Designed and constructed as a collaboration between Aileen De La Ree Valencia and Nush Wadia, the ButtonBack chair is an exploration of materiality, type and ergonomics. Made primarily from cherry wooden with Maple accents, the seat options an intriguing, asymmetrical design with natural contours and an elbow sole.
With a strong wooden seat and backrest, the design intention was to defy standard requirements of aesthetics and luxury. Every undulation has been exactly carved, emphasizing the grain of the wooden and making a distinction of onerous and gentle edges on the floor of the chair. The entrance panel disrupts the symmetry of the design, whereas the element between the seat and armrest transitions between the graceful and onerous edges of the seat, enhancing each visible and tactile options.

The Button Chair explores type, materiality and ergonomics
The ButtonBack chair construction relies on two stretchers, which along with the entrance panel, facet leg and again leg make up the chair body. The first stretcher runs between the entrance panel and the rear leg, whereas the secondary stretcher helps the armrest by connecting it to the first. The backrest and armrest are connected to the body utilizing dowels, whereas the seat itself is dry-attached to the stretcher and entrance panel. These technical decisions present structural stability, complementing the distinctive silhouette of the chair.
True to its title, the ButtonBack Chair options 4 maple accents on the again, breaking the monotony of the wealthy cherry wooden with lighter, contrasting components. Together with the armrest, these accents present refined components, lowering the visible weight of the chair. Designers Aileen De La Ree Valencia (see extra Right here) and Nush Wadia (see extra Right here) embraced the pure traits of wooden, with the majority of the cherry timber permitting the liberty to carve an “imperfect” form that options knots and wavy surfaces.
