This Tiny Italian Home Turns Everyday Moments Into a Work of Art
La Casa Olive e Capperi, a 484-square-foot residence designed by architect Valentina Autiero, is situated in an olive grove on the Sorrento Peninsula. The home is a reflection of a lifestyle focused on the beauty of everyday moments, emphasizing a slower pace of living. Autiero’s design liberates the space from unnecessary elements, creating a vibrant environment that remains welcoming.
The renovation respected the original structure, with Autiero stating, “The renovation process was complex due to the layout of load-bearing walls and ceilings, as well as the limited square footage.” The home is divided into two main areas, each with distinct architectural features, promoting a new spatial narrative while facilitating interaction in daily life.
The interiors feature a color palette inspired by the surrounding Mediterranean landscape, with rich purples, yellows, and olive greens. Autiero describes the design as allowing sunlight to become a key element, with windows creating a “Swiss Cheese” effect that enhances the space. According to Autiero, “This home represents the true concept of luxury–not measured in monetary terms but instead tied to the quality of time spent in these surroundings.”
