AUSTIN, Texas — Town of Austin is launching a brand new grant program.
The Meals and Local weather Fairness Grant via the Metropolis of Austin Workplace of Sustainability will award grants price $150,000 to nonprofit organizations making a distinction locally.
“Assist tasks in our neighborhood that work towards neighborhood resilience, local weather justice, and meals justice,” stated Amanda Rohlich, Meals Coverage Officer for the Workplace of Sustainability.
Nonprofit organizations can apply till July 18. Grants will start to be awarded in September.
Ari Vinograd runs the nonprofit Our Shared Kitchen in Austin, which prepares 30,000 meals every year.
Vinograd hopes she will probably be a part of that funding.
“We put together scorching, nutritious meals for homeless and meals insecure individuals in Austin,” Vinograd stated. “Each day I’m going out, or our staff goes out. I hear 'we're hungry'. You don't know what's occurring to somebody, it doesn't matter, everybody must eat, everybody deserves a scorching, wholesome meal.”
There’s a nice want in Travis County, as 15% of the inhabitants (greater than 180,000 individuals) face meals insecurity, in response to metropolis information.
