Avoid the housing crisis and preserve purchasing power through fiscal measures and new regulations: The Vice President of the United States and the Democratic presidential candidate, Kamala Harris, presented her economic program this Friday. He was immediately branded as a communist by his Republican rival Donald Trump.
“Donald Trump fights for millionaires and big business. We, I, will fight to give money back to working and middle-class Americans,” said Harris, 59, of North Carolina.
The Republican “wants to impose what is effectively a national sales tax on the daily use and essential products that we import from other countries. It would destroy Americans,” he began.
“This would mean higher prices for almost every one of their everyday products,” he said. It's “Trump tax on gas, Trump tax on food, Trump tax on clothing,” he quipped.
“Donald Trump's economic plan would cost the typical family $3,900” a year, he said.
Harris proposes the construction of three million new houses to address the “lack” of peaks. It is supplemented by first-time buyer assistance, up to $25,000, and even laws to discourage real estate speculation.
Democratic candidate promises to help families with tax credits for those with newborns, with amounts that can reach $6,000.
He also proposes controlling companies that “inflate” prices beyond what is necessary, especially in the food sector.
In health matters, he wants to offer the entire population a device that puts a cap of $35 a month on the cost of insulin for the elderly and seek a solution to the problem of debts incurred to pay for medical treatments.
Harris knows the cost of living, which remains high even after that years of inflationpolitically affects the government he integrates with Joe Biden, despite strong growth and a solid labor market.
For Donald Trump, it is a “communist” plan.
“Comrade Harris has gone deeper into Communism!” he particularly criticizes the idea of price controls.
The term has a strong pejorative connotation in the United States.
“There have been numerous attempts in history to cap prices and they failed because they led to queues in front of stores, shortages and an explosion of inequality,” criticized the 78-year-old Republican millionaire.
Harris' campaign team accuses the Republican of preparing tax giveaways for his “ultra-rich friends.”
In addition, they criticize the policy of increasing tariffs promoted by the former president, because, according to them, this would encourage inflation.
According to a poll released Friday by the University of Michigan, 41% of consumers consider the vice president to be a better candidate for the economy, and 38% believe Trump is the right one in this area.
Previously, Trump largely dominated Joe Biden in opinion polls on the issue.
The Democrat infuriated her rival by proposing to eliminate tip taxes in the hotel and restaurant sector, and the Republican accused her of “plagiarizing” one of her ideas.
