Complaints about undesirable telemarketing calls fell for the third 12 months in a row, the Federal Commerce Fee introduced yesterday. Reviews of such calls are down greater than 50 % from 2021, in line with the FTC — a drop that might be thanks largely to stepped-up authorities efforts to fight irritating telemarketing and cellphone scams.
There have been about 33,000 fewer spam name complaints throughout fiscal 12 months 2024 than the earlier 12 months, the FTC writes. The drop has affected every kind of spam calls, although the company writes that stories of debt aid calls are up “greater than 85 % from final 12 months.”
The director of the FTC's Workplace of Shopper Safety, Sam Levine, stated that whereas unlawful calls are nonetheless “a scourge,” he credited the FTC's “technique of going after upstream gamers and equipping the company to take care of rising threats” with the discount complaints.
