Ex-McLaren Designers Shift Gears to Craft Luxury Furniture

João Dias and Patrick Carton, former designers at McLaren Automotive, are channeling their expertise in high-speed vehicles into the realm of luxury furniture with their latest creation, the Ennua Element 01. This piece transcends typical design; it’s described as a work of functional art that embodies the same principles of aerodynamics and proportion found in supercars.

Constructed around a robust carbon fiber frame, the Element 01 reflects the meticulous attention to detail the duo honed while working on hypercars like the W1 and Speedtail. “Every line has to justify itself; nothing is added for decoration alone,” they emphasized in a conversation with Design Milk.

Launched in June, the Element 01 is limited to just 199 individually numbered units, each starting at around $145,000. Buyers can personalize their pieces in collaboration with Dias and Carton, selecting materials and finishes to match their aesthetic vision.

This innovative creation marks the beginning of the “Element by Ennua” series, with plans for future designs that maintain the same commitment to detail and artistic integrity. As the founders state, “If we can’t make a genuine case for why it needs to exist, we won’t build it.”
