Colombia Faces Devastation as Earthquake Claims 240 Lives
Colombia is reeling from a catastrophic earthquake that has left at least 240 people dead and prompted a national emergency response. Key cities, including Pereira, Cali, Quibdó, Manizales, and Armenia, are under red alert due to widespread destruction.
Reports indicate that over 2,000 individuals are currently unaccounted for, intensifying the urgency of rescue operations. President Abelardo De la Espriella revealed that the disaster has obliterated more than 1,100 homes and inflicted damage on over 8,300 others.
In addition to residential losses, the earthquake has severely impacted public services, affecting 85 healthcare facilities and disrupting more than 800 educational institutions across the nation.
