Exploring the delicate types of ocean ecosystems, Vanessa Barragão continues to create fibrous iterations of coral reefs and marine biomes. Working with a workforce of studio assistants, she is impressed by environmentalism and textile strategies reminiscent of latch hooking, crocheting and weaving. Over the course of a number of weeks to a number of months, these meditative processes deliver tactile and textural varieties to life.
One of many artist's most impactful experiences within the final yr was a go to to the Raja Ampat Islands. An Indonesian archipelago off the northwestern tip of the Hen's Head Peninsula, the world is sometimes called the epicenter of coral variety, dwelling to over 600 species.
