A former student-athlete on the College of New Mexico is getting a uncommon invitation this summer season to pursue her future profession in sports activities.
Class of 2024 graduate Maddie Deucher, who spent her collegiate profession on the ladies's swimming and diving staff, is one among solely 200 student-athletes invited to take part within the NCAA Sports activities Discussion board in Indianapolis this week.
The three-day occasion is an academic program and networking alternative for student-athletes chosen from three divisions (D1, D2, D3) to study and discover potential careers in sports activities.
“I’m honored to have been chosen as a result of I do know I’ll make nice connections at this convention and be capable to symbolize the college nationally,” Deucher stated.
Deucher, who earned a grasp's diploma in sports activities administration, says she was nominated by UNM Athletic Compliance Director Amy Beggin.
Deucher calls Beggin her “greatest mentor” and says she's been influential in her journey.
“Amy is one among my greatest supporters and I do know I can go to her for something. I'm grateful that I used to be chosen as a result of it exhibits that Amy made the proper determination in nominating me for this convention,” stated Deucher.
The El Paso, Texas, native says that whereas she began out as a psychology main throughout the COVID pandemic, she couldn't think about life with out sports activities, and that finally led her to a profession in sports activities administration.
