CHICAGO (CBS) — Meals and festivity abounded on Sheffield Avenue Friday night time because the Lincoln Park Greek Pageant started.
The competition started Friday night time and runs by Sunday on the grounds of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 2701 N. Sheffield Ave., and alongside Sheffield Avenue north to Diversey Parkway.
Tents providing arts and crafts and jewellery have been arrange alongside the street. The cooks ready dishes of gyros and souvlaki, pastitsio, Greek hen and spanakopita.
Traditional rock and pop rock have been on the invoice Friday night time, with the bands Counterpoint and 16 Candles, respectively. The Ormi Orchestra will carry out fashionable and conventional Greek music on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and evenings.
This weekend will even function performances by the Greek people dance group from the Perifania College of Hellenic Music and Dance: adults at 7:30 pm on Saturday and kids at 6 pm on Sunday.
Pageant organizers invited everybody to expertise the traditional Greek idea of φιλοξενία, or hospitality.
The St. George Greek Orthodox Church that hosts the competition was established by Greek immigrants in 1923. They bought the previous Lutheran church that now homes St. George and tailored it in time for the Orthodox worship providers that will be held in April of that 12 months.
