BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (AP) – The Louisiana Home of Representatives handed laws that prohibits transgender athletes from competing on women’ sports activities groups in colleges.
Thursday’s 78-17 vote within the Home despatched the measure to Gov. John Bel Edwards, who is anticipated to veto the invoice.
Republican Senator Beth Mizell’s proposal handed each the Home and Senate on veto-proof margins. It is unclear if these coalitions would stick collectively to override an Edwards veto.
The Democratic governor calls the invoice discriminatory. The invoice is just like bans handed by Republican-led legislatures in a number of states.
Supporters say they’re attempting to protect equality for ladies’s sport.
