In one in every of his most bold works to this point, artist Collin van der Sluijs (beforehand) refers to 2 forces that have been pressured collectively. “These unusual instances have brought on a conflict between me as an individual and my work,” he says, “I wish to be free and never a string puppet directed by anybody.”
This sense is a part of the Dutch artist’s newest assortment, which opened this week at each the Vertical Gallery and the Vertical Undertaking House in Chicago. Correctly titled Collision, the private exhibition is various in environments and topics, containing 15 work on canvas, 12 on panel and over 50 works on paper. Just like his earlier items, this assortment capitalizes on van der Sluijs’ dream fashion, both by representations of probably the most ethereal qualities of nature, or by frantic mixes of brushstrokes and smaller, extra practical components. The works embrace emotionally chaotic portraits, serene depictions of singular birds and dense landscapes during which life and demise converge.
Collision takes place between 9 and 30 July. Whereas in Chicago, van der Sluijs can even create some murals, which you’ll observe on Instagram.
