Binational studio Montalba Architects used expansive home windows and a intelligent siting technique to ship the perfect views on the Canyon Terrace Home in Southern California.
Designed for a household of 4, the multi-story house sits on a sloping lot in Santa Monica.
Making certain a connection to the outside – together with views of a close-by canyon – was a guiding concern for Montalba Architects. The primary intention was “to create a dialogue between inside and exterior areas,” the studio mentioned.
In flip, the workforce designed a rectilinear, L-shaped house that opens to the street—an orientation that captures the perfect views of the canyon, which lies to the west.
Alongside the principle elevation going through the road, the workforce positioned a terrace and a slender pool. Bushes and a fence block the view from passersby.
The entrance door is to the east, hidden behind the street.
The outside partitions are manufactured from stucco in gentle shades and huge expanses of glass. A number of areas are lined with terraces and balconies shaded by anodized aluminum blinds.
“Nature and pure gentle are the pièce de résistance,” mentioned the studio.
“The home coexists with sweeping canyon views, permitting full solar publicity to radiate by two intersecting volumes that orient every of the residing areas to the landscapes past the pool deck,” he continued.
The home includes 5,400 sq. ft (502 sq. meters).
The entry degree holds the general public areas, together with an workplace. Full-height glass pocket doorways open the inside to the patio and pool, permitting for a easy transition between gathering areas.
The higher degree accommodates the main bedroom and two further bedrooms.
The bottom degree incorporates a recreation room, media room, health club, laundry and cupboard space, together with a two-car storage.
Oak flooring, walnut millwork and quartz kitchen counters are among the many inside finishes. The limestone has a number of areas, together with the doorway, the pool and the central fire.
