GPU Prices Surge Again Amid Renewed Shortage

By Editor • April 26, 2025 • 1 min read

The GPU market is feeling the strain once more, as prices for graphics cards, particularly AMD models, have surged dramatically. Central Computers, a notable Silicon Valley retailer, announced a hefty markup on the AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT, priced at $850 instead of its original $600.

A broader check reveals that this price inflation is widespread, with various AMD cards seeing increases of up to $280. Nvidia’s RTX 5080 is now retailing for over $1,500, $500 above its MSRP, while the RTX 5090 has reached an astounding $3,000.

While tariffs are a factor, the demand for GPUs appears to be only partially responsible. Recent listings on eBay show meager availability, with only around 1,100 Nvidia and 266 AMD GPUs listed over the past month. The situation could worsen as the de minimis exemption expires on May 2, potentially adding taxes to more shipments.
