New Sistersville General Hospital Breaks Ground, Aiming to Transform Local Healthcare

On May 28, a significant milestone was reached for rural healthcare in West Virginia with the groundbreaking of the new Sistersville General Hospital. This event, attended by community leaders and health officials, marks the beginning of The Promise Campaign, a $12 million initiative spearheaded by the Memorial Health Foundation.

The ceremony commenced with a VIP Luncheon at E.A. Durham House, where key figures, including Memorial Health System's Executive Director Jarrett Stull and board member Donn Schafer, shared their vision for the hospital's future. WV Delegate David Kelly, along with his wife Jan, emphasized the campaign's goal to raise the remaining $2 million needed for the project, having already secured $9.7 million from various local and state sources.

Among the highlights, Kathryn Bailey from Peoples Bank announced a generous contribution of $125,000, while Dan and Leah Breece pledged an additional $25,000 to the campaign. The event featured a range of speakers, including local officials and healthcare leaders, who collectively lauded the project's potential to enhance community health services.

The new facility is set to revolutionize healthcare access in Sistersville, featuring specialized spaces for medical procedures, community events, and advanced diagnostic services. Mayor William Rice expressed his disbelief and excitement over the day's achievements, reflecting on the hospital's journey from the brink of closure to a promising future.

Scott Cantley, President and CEO of Memorial Health Systems, articulated the hospital's ambition to provide top-tier healthcare comparable to other facilities within the system. He reassured the community of their commitment to delivering exceptional care.

With an anticipated completion date by the end of 2026, Hospital Administrator Jason Suter, a lifelong resident of Sistersville, is poised to lead this transformative project, ensuring it serves the needs of the community effectively.
