WHO Champions Refugee Health on World Refugee Day 2025

By Editor • June 18, 2025 • 1 min read

On World Refugee Day 2025, the World Health Organization (WHO) has emphasized the critical need for health as a basic human right for the 123 million displaced individuals globally. The organization highlights the theme “Solidarity with Refugees,” urging immediate action to build inclusive health systems that accommodate everyone.

With over 70% of refugees residing in low- and middle-income nations, access to health services is severely restricted, particularly for vulnerable groups such as women and children. Many refugees face long wait times for legal recognition, often exceeding a decade, exacerbating their struggles.

Despite advancements in integrating refugee health into national strategies, ongoing challenges persist, with shrinking humanitarian budgets threatening essential services. WHO calls on governments and communities to renew their commitment and enhance support for refugee health initiatives.
