A Revolutionary Camera That Ejects Photos Like Film

A new innovation in photography combines the nostalgia of film with modern technology: a digital camera that ejects physical photos. Dubbed the Camera with Digital Film, this device captures images digitally and commits them to a unique e-paper cartridge, allowing users to hold and display their pictures like traditional prints.

Designed by Jens from the Strange Inventions Lab, the camera features a 3D-printed body and utilizes a Raspberry Pi with a 5-megapixel camera module. Once a scene is captured, the image is processed using a four-color palette—black, white, red, and yellow—giving each photo a striking graphic quality reminiscent of screen prints. This intentional limitation encourages a thoughtful approach to photography, contrasting sharply with the instant gratification typical of digital images.

What sets this camera apart is its dual functionality: after capturing an image, users can easily remove the cartridge, which preserves the photo even without power. When ready, they can slide it back in to overwrite the old shot, creating a sense of permanence similar to that of chemical film.
