The Stretching Cat Bench: A Playful Fusion of Function and Form

MACH Architects Beijing has creatively reinterpreted the traditional potter’s wedging stand, transforming it into a whimsical bench inspired by a stretching cat.

By optimizing the incline and width for ergonomic comfort, the design offers both functionality and a lightweight appearance, constructed from 24mm timber panels.

This innovative piece features traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery for stability, and includes a hidden drawer within its ‘belly’ and a rotating head that serves as a mechanical lock.
