Alex Cooper Eyes Agency Change Amid Controversy and Business Expansion

By Editor • August 16, 2026 • 1 min read

Alex Cooper, a prominent podcaster and entrepreneur, is reportedly considering a split from her talent agency, UTA, as she navigates a challenging period of media scrutiny and seeks to broaden her business horizons.

Sources indicate that Cooper's frustration with UTA stems partly from its ongoing associations with influencers Alix Earle and Dave Portnoy, who have previously clashed with her. This decision comes on the heels of the closure of her beverage venture, Unwell Beverage Co., which was launched last year in partnership with Nestlé.

Despite these challenges, Cooper has made significant strides with her production company, Unwell, which she co-founded with her husband, Matt Kaplan. Recently, Unwell attracted an investment from Patrick Whitesell, co-founder of WME, valuing the company at $500 million. This funding is intended to bolster Unwell's growth as it aims to expand beyond podcasting into lucrative brand collaborations.

While UTA has been instrumental in facilitating Cooper's projects, including securing her a role with NBCUniversal for the 2024 Paris Olympics, she is reportedly in talks with CAA as she looks for a fresh direction in her representation. Unwell has maintained profitability since its inception, with Cooper expressing optimism about its future.

In the midst of her agency reevaluation, Cooper has faced allegations of workplace issues under Kaplan's leadership. She addressed these claims at Cannes Lions, urging skepticism towards online narratives and defending the work culture at Unwell. Cooper emphasized the unique challenges women face in the industry, suggesting that negative portrayals may stem from gender biases.
