Brazil Hits TikTok with $30 Million Fine Over Child Privacy Issues

By Editor • August 25, 2026 • 1 min read

Brazil's data protection authority has levied a hefty fine of nearly $30 million against TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, for alleged violations concerning the privacy of minors.

The regulator found that TikTok improperly handled the personal data of children and teens, processing information from at least 8 million young users without proper legal justification or safeguards. The ruling criticized TikTok’s inadequate age-verification processes, particularly emphasizing its 'logged-out feed' feature that allows unregistered users, including minors, to browse content.

As part of the decision, TikTok must delete all improperly collected data and establish a more robust youth-protection framework. The company has a 10-day window to appeal the ruling.
