China Rebuts U.S. Report on Transshipment and Tariffs

China's Commerce Ministry has publicly condemned a recent U.S. report regarding transshipment, labeling it as factually incorrect and an effort to hinder Chinese exports. At a press conference on August 20, 2026, spokesperson He Yadong urged the U.S. to halt what he termed 'irresponsible accusations.' The report claims the U.S. is missing out on $19 billion to $26 billion annually in tariff revenue due to goods, primarily from China, being rerouted through third countries to evade import duties.
In addition to disputing the transshipment claims, China expressed strong opposition to new U.S. tariffs on unmanned drones and their components, which President Trump announced last week based on national security concerns. He Yadong stated that these tariffs, set to take effect on September 3, unfairly target Chinese products and disrupt the global drone supply chain.
Chinese drone manufacturer DJI, which dominates over two-thirds of the global market, has been subject to U.S. restrictions since 2022, despite its claims of not being military-owned or controlled.
