Claressa Shields Triumphs Over Kaye Scott, Eyes Future Showdown with Lauren Price

By Editor • August 16, 2026 • 1 min read

Claressa Shields has once again showcased her boxing prowess, defeating Kaye Scott in the sixth round to claim the WBA and WBC middleweight titles at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta. This victory marks a significant return to the 160-pound division for Shields, who entered the ring with an unblemished record of 18 wins, 0 losses, and 4 knockouts.

From the outset, Shields demonstrated her dominance, consistently landing punches and controlling the pace of the fight. After a series of calculated attacks, she knocked Scott down in the sixth round, leading to a stoppage by the Australian’s corner when they realized their fighter could no longer adequately defend herself.

This match was particularly notable as it was the first women's main event in the history of the venue. Shields, who has previously held undisputed champion status at middleweight, is now back in contention after transitioning through lighter weight classes, including her reign as heavyweight champion.

Post-fight, Shields revealed the challenges she faced during training, having cut 38 pounds to return to her former division. “It was a hard camp,” she admitted, emphasizing the discipline required to achieve such a significant weight loss. Despite her efforts, she approached the fight strategically, wary of Scott's strength.

Looking ahead, Shields expressed interest in a match against Lauren Price, a fellow Olympic champion, hoping to schedule it for late 2023 or early 2024. She also mentioned potential bouts with Mikaela Mayer or Tammara Thibeault, who recently captured titles in her fifth professional fight.
