This summer, Tokyo Big Sight buzzed with excitement as Comic Market 108, or Comiket, attracted a staggering 260,000 attendees over two days, marking a 10,000 increase from last year.
The event, held on August 15 and 16, showcased around 23,000 booths where creators shared their self-published works, including manga and art. Additionally, 121 companies participated, offering merchandise and engaging activities, including panels and meet-and-greets.
Cosplay remained a highlight, with about 9,000 registered cosplayers braving the elements to showcase their intricate costumes, including summer-themed adaptations of popular video game characters.
International participation soared, with attendees hailing from a record 76 countries, according to the Comic Market Preparatory Committee. Comiket has evolved significantly since its inception in December 1975, when just 700 fans gathered. The upcoming Comiket 109 will span three days from December 29 to 31, responding to high demand and ticketing challenges faced last winter.
