Daewoo’s Innovative Rose Iron: A Game-Changer in Steam Technology

In a remarkable twist on traditional ironing, Daewoo has unveiled its Rose Portable Iron, a sleek device that redefines garment care without the conventional soleplate. This iron, designed by Wang Jun's team at Guangdong Daewoo, boasts a compact form that collapses into the size of an A4 sheet, making it not only efficient but also aesthetically pleasing.

Unlike typical irons that rely on hot metal to smooth wrinkles, the Rose utilizes a 550kPa steam head that hovers above the fabric, delivering a fine mist of steam that penetrates fibers without saturating them. This innovative approach allows for a gentler ironing experience—ideal for delicate fabrics, as demonstrated by the device’s ability to steam a balloon without popping it.

The Rose Iron, which recently won the Top Design award at the 2025 European Product Design Awards, embodies a clever play on skeuomorphism. By maintaining the familiar silhouette of a classic iron, it offers users a sense of trust while presenting a modern solution to a timeless chore. Available in a glossy red finish, this portable iron is designed to be showcased rather than hidden away.

Equipped with five adjustable modes, the Rose caters to various fabric types, with temperatures ranging from 110°C for silk to 210°C for wool. Its precision tip is perfect for navigating tricky areas like buttons, ensuring that users can achieve crisp results without the fear of scorching their favorite garments.

Currently, the Rose Iron is available exclusively in China, priced between $140 to $196, depending on the model.
