Dolly Parton's Final Song Hidden in Time Capsule Set for Future Release

By Editor • August 27, 2026 • 1 min read

Dolly Parton, the beloved country music icon, has left behind a treasure trove of memories, including a secret song titled 'My Place In History.' Although she passed away on Tuesday after a brief battle with cancer, her legacy continues through various posthumous projects.

In 2015, Parton and her team buried a special time capsule at the Dollywood DreamMore Resort and Spa. Inside a chestnut box, they placed copies of her unreleased song on cassette and CD, along with the necessary players. This Dream Box is intended to remain sealed until 2046, coinciding with Parton’s 100th birthday.

A plaque inside the box details its purpose as a tribute to Parton’s uncle, Bill Owens, who dedicated his life to preserving the American Chestnut tree. During a 2022 appearance on 'The Kelly Clarkson Show,' Parton revealed her concerns about the song possibly never being heard, admitting, 'I figure it’ll probably disintegrate.'

Despite her passing, Parton’s influence will continue through other projects, including a Nashville museum, an endorsement deal with Purina, and a Broadway musical set to premiere on her 81st birthday.
