Exploring Shadows: Alejandro Aguilar Canela's Graphite Artistry

Alejandro Aguilar Canela, an Austin-based artist, channels our darkest emotions into his compelling graphite drawings. His work grapples with complex themes such as depression, anger, and sexuality, revealing how these feelings can lead to growth and transformation.

Specializing in drawing, Canela's pieces vary in size, often ranging from two to four feet wide, crafted on traditional paper and vellum. He primarily utilizes graphite and fine line mechanical pencils, deliberately incorporating imperfections like smudges, which echo his belief in embracing adversity.

"There is another side to our own darkness," Canela reflects. He aims to give shape to his emotions through unique, human-like figures.
