Falic Group Takes Over Luxury Travel Retail at Abu Dhabi's Zayed International Airport

In a strategic move to enhance its presence in the luxury travel retail market, the Miami-based Falic Group has announced its acquisition of DFS’s travel retail operations at Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi. While the financial details of the agreement remain undisclosed, the deal is anticipated to conclude by the third quarter of this year.

This acquisition positions Duty Free Americas to tap into the burgeoning travel retail sector in the Middle East, a region experiencing significant growth. Zayed International Airport, the UAE's second-largest, accommodated 32 million passengers last year, with a capacity for 45 million annually.

According to Leon Falic, president of the Falic Group, plans are underway to elevate the luxury shopping experience at the airport. Enhancements will include the introduction of flagship brands and an expansion of existing stores, along with innovative open-air retail spaces designed to improve passenger engagement. Carsten Nørland, chief commercial officer of Abu Dhabi Airports, expressed confidence that Falic Group’s expertise will create a more vibrant retail landscape that aligns with passenger expectations.
