Former Business Tycoon Sentenced to 12 Years for Bribery in Absentia

Moscow's Basmanny District Court has sentenced Boris Usherovich, ex-co-owner of the "1520" group, to 12 years in prison in absentia for bribing a former Interior Ministry colonel. The court also imposed a hefty fine of 500 million rubles on Usherovich, who has been on an international wanted list.
The bribery case, which began hearings in October 2025, revealed that between 2007 and 2016, Usherovich and his associates paid Colonel Dmitry Zakharchenko over 1.4 billion rubles to gain protection for a shadow banking operation. Initially, Zakharchenko received monthly payments of 150,000 euros, which later shifted to 20% of the platform’s income.
Usherovich, alongside his business partners, fled Russia as investigations began. His associate Valery Markelov was previously sentenced to eight years in prison but died shortly after due to cancer.
