Goy Architects, a burgeoning architectural firm based in Singapore, has been selected for the prestigious Wallpaper* Architects Directory 2026. Founded by Goy Zhenru, the studio emphasizes a design philosophy that reflects the rich cultural and material diversity of Southeast Asia.
Goy's approach to architecture is deeply rooted in the region’s vernacular traditions and focuses on creating spaces that resonate with local identity and craftsmanship. She elaborates, "We design for the equatorial climate, drawing inspiration from local traditions while interpreting them in a contemporary voice." Her work includes a variety of projects, from restorations to bespoke furniture, showcasing her commitment to collaborative design.
One of her recent projects, Namly, involves the transformation of a sentimental 1950s bungalow located in Bukit Timah. The family residing in the house sought more space while preserving the building’s cherished historical features, such as vibrant mosaic flooring and decorative metal window grills. Goy's solution involved extending the home while maintaining its original charm, integrating a landscaped courtyard garden adorned with a new palette of materials that echo the building's design.
Through her designs, Goy not only supports local artisans but also aims to tell stories through materials, fostering a deeper connection between architecture and its environment.
