The Supreme Court of Pakistan has mandated that former Prime Minister Imran Khan be transferred to a hospital from jail, responding to concerns regarding his health, as reported by his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Khan, who has been incarcerated since August 2023 following a series of convictions he argues are politically motivated, is to be moved to Shifa International Hospital within 48 hours. His spokesperson indicated that he is to remain there until September 16.
At 73 years old, Khan's family has raised alarms over his declining health, with reports of significant vision loss in his right eye during his imprisonment. PTI spokesperson Zulfikar Bukhari expressed relief over the court's decision, wishing it had come sooner to prevent further health deterioration.
Since his ousting in 2022, Khan has faced numerous legal challenges, with some convictions overturned or under appeal, all while maintaining his innocence.
