Jennifer Garner recently opened up about her emotional journey after narrowly missing a role in the acclaimed series 'The West Wing.' Speaking on the latest episode of her Audacy podcast, Aspire, she shared her heartfelt experience of disappointment and healing.
Garner revealed that after auditioning for a part she desperately wanted, she retreated to the desert for solitude. “God, I wanted it so badly,” she said. Although she didn’t specify the role, it was previously reported that she tested for Ainsley Hayes, a character that ultimately went to Emily Proctor. Garner described the experience as a “mourning” process, emphasizing how much she valued Aaron Sorkin’s distinctive writing style.
However, just two weeks after her setback, fortune smiled upon her when she was cast in the iconic series 'Alias,' which transformed her career. Garner reflected on this twist of fate, saying, “Rejection is God’s protection.” In addition to discussing her career, she touched on her experiences with fame, the challenges of paparazzi, and her entrepreneurial journey as co-founder of Once Upon a Farm.
Garner also candidly discussed her career strategy following her divorce from Ben Affleck. Realizing the urgency to re-establish her work life, she and her manager devised a plan that allowed her to balance her responsibilities as a mother while pursuing acting opportunities.
On the topic of navigating celebrity life, Garner recounted how the intense media attention led her to consider relocating for her family's safety, although it ultimately proved to be unfeasible. “We might as well mess up the city we’re already messing up,” she quipped about the challenges of finding privacy.
