Kangaroos Midfielder Mia King Undergoes Season-Ending Surgery

By Editor • August 28, 2026 • 1 min read

Mia King, midfielder for the North Melbourne Kangaroos, will miss the remainder of the 2026 AFLW season following spinal fusion surgery. The procedure was necessitated by a disc injury discovered after she reported neck pain post-match against the Brisbane Lions.

King successfully underwent surgery to fuse the C5 and C6 vertebrae in her neck and is currently recuperating in Queensland. While she will not play again this season, North Melbourne's club doctor Victoria Norbury expressed optimism about her recovery, stating that she is expected to return for the 2027 season.

General manager of women's football Erin Lorenzini emphasized the club’s support for King during her recovery. "We are devastated for her, but also full of admiration for how incredibly strong she has been this week," Lorenzini remarked, highlighting the team's unity as they prepare for their upcoming match against the Bulldogs.
