In a remarkable fusion of anime and LEGO artistry, builder tulodici has crafted a breathtaking 1,064-piece model of Super Saiyan Goku. This intricate design captures Goku's iconic transformation mid-Kamehameha, complete with a cracked alien landscape and dynamic aura shards.
While LEGO has largely overlooked anime in its product lines, the recent success of Netflix’s One Piece live-action adaptation has sparked interest in this genre. Tulodici’s creation could pave the way for more anime-inspired builds, although the franchise's licensing issues with Bandai and Toei present a significant hurdle.
The figure is meticulously designed using ball and turntable joints, allowing for a dynamic pose unlike many static display figures. Particularly noteworthy is the innovative hair design, which utilizes techniques from LEGO's botanical sets to achieve the sharp, gravity-defying look typical of anime characters. This creative approach showcases tulodici’s skill in utilizing existing elements to replicate complex styles.
Accompanying the build is a minifigure featuring interchangeable hair pieces to switch between Goku's base and Super Saiyan forms. Currently, the project has 917 supporters on LEGO Ideas, with a goal of reaching 1,000 to move forward. As tulodici notes, achieving this milestone will require “OVER 9000” supporters, a nod to the beloved anime series. Fans eager to see this figure in production can lend their support on the LEGO Ideas platform.
