Martin Short Embraces Emmy Buzz from Diverse Projects

Martin Short is enjoying an exceptional Emmy season, with nominations spanning three distinct projects that showcase his versatility. The actor is recognized for his role in Hulu's acclaimed series, Only Murders in the Building, where he is nominated for Outstanding Comedy Lead and as an executive producer. Additionally, he has received a nod for hosting ABC’s game show, Match Game.

Short is also the subject of the Netflix documentary Marty, Life Is Short, directed by Lawrence Kasdan. Although he is not part of the production team and won’t receive an Emmy if it wins for Outstanding Documentary, he fully supports the project. Kasdan, a longtime friend of Short’s, approached him with the idea after they shared a conversation about celebrating life through humor amidst personal grief.

Reflecting on the documentary, Short shared that he had a wealth of home footage, thanks to years of filming his family moments. He mentioned that renowned filmmaker Steven Spielberg contributed personal home movies featuring Short as well. Following the tragic passing of his daughter Katherine in February, Kasdan offered to delay the film’s release, but Short decided it should proceed, emphasizing its themes of love and loss.

In this busy Emmy season, Short’s contributions don't stop there; he also appears in the documentary John Candy: I Like Me, which is competing with his own film at the Emmys. Short reminisced about how Candy inspired his passion for home videos.

While he confirmed there are no immediate plans for more seasons of Match Game, he hinted at possible future opportunities. Looking ahead, he is excited about the upcoming season of Only Murders, which will see the show transitioning to London with new star-studded guest appearances. Expressing his gratitude for the recognition, he humorously declared, “I am Mr. Emmy this year!”
