In the heart of Tullamore, New South Wales, gym instructor Sherrie Williams has become a local legend, showcasing her incredible strength by pulling 10-tonne trucks during her spare time.
At 50 years old, Williams embarked on her journey to strength a decade ago, moving from a sedentary desk job to a life filled with fitness challenges. Her passion quickly escalated from running marathons to Olympic lifting, ultimately leading her to the world of strongman competitions.
Strongman events are a unique blend of strength and technique, often involving lifting and transporting unusual objects. "It's not just about raw power; there's a lot of technique involved," says Williams, who thrives on the variety and empowerment the sport offers.
After a car accident left her temporarily using only one arm, Williams adapted her training to focus on one-arm deadlifts, even attempting a Guinness World Record in 2025. She surpassed the previous record by lifting an astonishing 3,950kg in just one hour.
Now, as a local gym trainer, Williams has also introduced strongman events to the Tullamore Show, encouraging participation from the community. This year’s highlight included a thrilling 'human pull' event, showcasing the strength of both seasoned competitors and newcomers alike.
