Microsoft-Backed AI Datacenter Under Fire for Unpermitted Generators

A significant AI datacenter in Vineland, New Jersey, is facing allegations of federal law violations due to its reliance on unpermitted gas-powered generators. The DataOne facility, which is backed by Microsoft, was found to be operating at least 45 out of its 62 generators, as revealed by thermal drone footage.
The investigation, conducted by the non-profit newsroom Floodlight, raises concerns about the facility’s compliance with regulations. The footage, taken last week, shows the datacenter's extensive use of these generators, which have not received the necessary permits.
