Moscow Metro Promotes ‘Alternative Service’ Amid Military Recruitment Concerns

New advertisements for an 'alternative civilian service' have surfaced at Moscow metro stations, aiming to attract individuals for non-combat roles. These signs, reported by the independent outlet Vot Tak, offer a one-time payment of 2.3 million rubles and a five-day work schedule, while claiming to exempt recruits from mandatory military conscription.
Positions advertised include communications specialists, IT experts, and drivers, with the work based in Naro-Fominsk. The organization Zashchitnik.rf, responsible for these ads, has been active on social media promoting similar services since December 2024.
However, a representative from Zashchitnik.rf clarified that signing up for this 'alternative service' still involves a standard military contract. Despite assurances that recruits won't be sent to the front lines, concerns have been raised by the human rights project Get Lost, which warns that such contracts can mislead individuals into combat roles disguised as civilian work.
