NASA and Katalyst Space Technologies have decided to terminate their attempt to save the Swift gamma-ray telescope from its orbital decline. The rescue satellite, Link, launched on July 3, aimed to capture Swift with robotic arms and elevate its orbit.
However, Katalyst cited persistent attitude control issues as the reason for halting the mission. While Link remains operational, the company hopes to utilize its capabilities for a demonstration of navigation techniques near Swift.
