Nicolás Maduro Shares First Jail Photos from Brooklyn Detention

Former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has unveiled his first photographs since being incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, earlier this year. Released via his X account, the images, taken on June 25, show him in sports attire flashing a victory sign, aimed as a message of hope for his supporters.

In his post, Maduro expressed, "I am sending these photos as a small gift to all my grandchildren and to all the good people who love us," adding that he remains resilient, buoyed by their affection. The photos reached him by post this week, with Maduro having seen them for the first time on July 13.

Since his capture in Caracas on January 3 by U.S. forces, Maduro has faced four narcoterrorism-related charges, which he vehemently denies, claiming innocence and describing his arrest as a "military kidnapping." His trial is set to begin in June 2027, while a preliminary hearing on November 17 will address his potential immunity as a head of state.
