The Oldenburg Film Festival has announced its first selection of films for the upcoming 2026 edition, showcasing a mix of world premieres and intriguing titles from major film festivals like Cannes and Locarno.

Among the highlights is Bertrand Mandico's Roma Elastica, featuring Marion Cotillard and Noémie Merlant, which will have its German premiere. This midnight screening at Cannes blends elements of Italian giallo and American slasher films, depicting the psychological unraveling of a scream queen in 1982 Rome.

Another notable premiere is Michael Polish’s Kill Me Now, starring Jacqueline Singer as a novelist who finds her life mirroring her thriller narrative. The cast includes Mena Suvari and Mario Van Peebles. Edgar Pêra’s Asphalt Guerilla also joins the lineup, melding fiction with history as it recounts a 1970s bank heist in Portugal.

Newcomer Matthew Osubor will debut his feature Big Daddy’s Flowers, exploring the life of a flower delivery driver caught in a crime web. Other world premieres include Foreign Tongue about the immigrant experience, Mylissa Fitzsimmons’ Mackenzie, and Srdjan Janicijevic’s political thriller set in North Macedonia.

The festival, which runs from September 16-20, also released a humorous trailer titled “2026: An Oldenburg Odyssey,” parodying John Carpenter’s Dark Star.
