Public Sentiment Shifts Against License Plate Surveillance Cameras

A recent YouGov survey reveals a significant shift in American attitudes towards surveillance cameras, particularly those operated by Flock. Of the 20,000 surveyed, 46% expressed opposition to these cameras in their communities, while only 38% supported them, marking a notable change from last year’s majority approval.
Flock, which manages over 120,000 license plate readers nationwide, has faced backlash due to reported abuses of its technology. Many communities have either rejected or canceled contracts with the company over privacy issues. Flock’s CEO, Garrett Langley, has suggested a need for compromise amid concerns about vandalism targeting their cameras.
